Call to Worship

In faith, Abraham and Sarah set out for a new land.

In faith, we seek to follow God in our lives.

In faith the church continually seeks to understand

what tasks God has set before us in this present moment.

In faith, we gather now to worship, knowing that

as we follow where God leads, God will make us new.

Give us faith and trust, O God, to go forward

and embrace the newness to which you call us.

Call to Prayer

James 5:14-16a

Prayer of Confession and Assurance of Forgiveness

In Jesus Christ, God broke the barrier of sin and pain which separates us from our neighbor, ourselves, and our God. We seek God’s grace so we might move from separation to new life.

O God, grant us new life in you.

When we deny your presence in our busy days—

O God, grant us new life in you.

When we feel justified in our anger and resentment toward others—

O God, grant us new life in you.

When we judge others before looking at ourselves—

O God, grant us new life in you.

When we become preoccupied with worry and reject your peace and assurance—

O God, grant us new life in you.

When we stray from following your will because we are fearful and untrusting—

O God grant us new life in you.

When we seek the security of false gods and turn our faces from your Light—

O God, grant us new life in you.

There is no greater joy in the heart of God than when we call upon God to grant us new life in the center of our wounded hearts. It is with great joy that God grants us new life and forgiveness of sin.

In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven by grace.

We are a new and different people from this moment on. Thanks be to God! Amen.
