Blue Christmas Service - When Seasons May Not Feel As Bright: December 21 at 6 pm

In the bleak mid-winter, not everyone is up and cheery for the Christmas holidays. A number of human situations make parties and joviality painful for many people in our congregations and community - hence, the term “Blue Christmas”. During this and every service, we are creating a sacred space, where all are welcome and affirmed just as they are, for people living through dark times. This service is reflective, accepting where we really are, and holding out healing and hope.

Our Blue Christmas or Liturgy of the Longest Night coincides with the December 21 Winter Solstice as well as the traditional feast day for Saint Thomas the Apostle. This linkage invites making some connections between Thomas's struggle to believe the tale of Jesus' resurrection, the long nights just before Christmas, and the struggle with darkness and grief faced by those living with loss.

The 6 pm service will be in-person or streamed online.
