Second Sunday in Lent

Enhance your online worship experience

Whether you’re a first-time online visitor or a life-long member, we welcome and celebrate the ways you enrich our collective worship of a scattered yet gathered Children of God. As we begin our service, we invite you to light a candle, just as we do in the prelude during our in-person worship. Our two altar candles symbolize that Christ was both a human being and God. A light being carried into the world shows that Jesus Christ is for all people - everywhere. Just as a the acolyte carries the lighted candlelight into the congregation, the light symbolizes the light of Jesus Christ preceding us into the world where we as the church are to serve.

Gathering:

Welcome and Announcements

Call to Worship

One: Because temptation is woven into the fabric of our lives, and we know the weariness of forty days in the desert,
Many: We need you, God.
One: Because we see the brokenness, the half empty cup, and the unfinished task,
Many: We need you, God.
One: Because we trust in what we can see, we are blinded by our prejudices, and we do not know what we do not know,
Many: We need you, God.
One: Because our need for correctness exceeds our need for truth,
Many: We need you, God.
One: Because you came among us, breathed into our souls, healed our pain, loved us to the end, and triumphed over all our hatred,
Many: We need you, God. +

Lenten Discernment

Reflection: What tempts you from a closer relationship with God?

What might it be like to be more in tune with God in your daily life?

Daily Prayer: Loving God, forgive me for the times I chose to follow my own desires over Your desires for my life. Help me to know the fullness of Life when I trust You completely with the decisions of my days. Amen
