🕯️Blue Christmas, Longest Night Service to Offer Alternative for those Struggling This Holiday Season

Church to Host Blue Christmas Service / Liturgy of the Longest Night
December 20 at 6 pm

In the bleak mid-winter, not everyone is up and cheery for the Christmas holidays. A number of human situations make parties and joviality painful for many people in our congregations and community - hence, the term “Blue Christmas.” During this and every service, we are creating a sacred space, where all are welcome and affirmed just as they are, for people living through dark times. This service is reflective, accepting where we really are, and holding out healing and hope.

Our Blue Christmas or Liturgy of the Longest Night coincides with the Winter Solstice as well as the traditional feast day for Saint Thomas the Apostle. This linkage invites making some connections between Thomas's struggle to believe the tale of Jesus' resurrection, the long nights just before Christmas, and the struggle with darkness and grief faced by those living with loss.

The holiday season and Christmas aren’t always merry and bright for everyone. For some, it can be a season of stress, sadness and loneliness. We welcome those who need a safe, sacred space to join us on December 20 at 6 pm - online or in-person.
