✝️ A Pastor’s Reflection for the Lenten Season

Lent is the season leading up to Easter. Lent is 40 days in length, to mirror the 40 days Jesus was tempted in the wilderness (the season includes the Sundays, so it’s actually 46 days).

Oftentimes people will mark this season by choosing to give up something. Usually it’s something one enjoys and does often so as to remember the sacrifice Christ made to make a path to God for us. You may also choose to take something on, add an action or spiritual discipline that reminds you of the season.

This year, whatever else you choose, I invite you to think of this season as an opportunity to give yourself to God to be transformed in some way.

Maybe that sounds scary and you are saying “no thank you, preacher.” I understand that. Change is scary. When I was pregnant a preacher friend told me, "that baby will change you more than Jesus." I was quite frightened at that thought. She asked why, “hasn't Jesus changed you in good ways?” I replied yes, but that's a lot of change! She was right, it did change me tremendously, and God was within each part of it, and I am very grateful for it all. This Lenten season trust that God is offering you a pathway to a more healed you. God is offering you a path to abundant life.

I don't know exactly what that change might look like for you. You might not even know that. But I trust in God and I trust you will be grateful for it.

Peace

Lisa
